Incentives for Success
Many solo physicians and small practices have heard about the benefits of electronic health records. But change is hard. And the upfront costs of equipment and training can seem daunting.
Let us help you find ways to overcome the seemingly overwhelming hurdles to electronic records. The federal government, through the HITECH Act, is offering incentives for independent practitioners to get these electronic systems up and running. With a health information technology infrastructure in place, many independent physicians become more efficient and better able to serve their patients. These stimulus dollars, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, represent an unprecedented federal investment for small practices. Why not seize the moment?
How much money can I get?
Through the Medicare or the Medi-Cal program, physicians can qualify for between $44,000 and $63,750 in federal incentives for demonstrating meaningful use of a certified EHR system.
What other support do I have?
In addition to the direct incentives, the federal government has also invested in the regional extension centers (RECs)—federally-funded, vendor-neutral organizations who help physicians understand and access this funding and provide assistance with selecting and implementing electronic health records.
How will it benefit my practice?
Electronic health records allow independent physicians to participate in new delivery models and systems created in health reform. These new models, which include accountable care organizations (ACOs) and patient-centered medical homes, will rely on common record-keeping, which can only be done using EHRs.
